Oregon Private College Week

PRESS RELEASE      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 4, 2014
PORTLAND, Ore. - Prospective students are invited to participate in Oregon Private College Week from July 28 – August 1, hosted by the Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges & Universities (The Alliance).
Oregon’s private, non-profit, regionally accredited colleges and universities support educational attainment for Oregon’s socio-economically diverse population with 21% of their undergraduates being the first in their family to attend college, and 31% qualifying for federal Pell Grants based on income.
The private sector campuses make indispensable contributions to Oregon’s communities and our state’s 40-40-20 education attainment goals by awarding 22% of baccalaureate degrees in such high-need fields as STEM, business, public administration and social service, and half or more of graduate degrees in health professions, education, and business. Moreover Alliance institutions contribute 30% of the bachelor’s degrees and higher portion of the 40-40-20 attainment goal.
Colleges will offer campus tours and information sessions about admissions, financial aid and academic programs. College officials will also correct some common myths about the cost of a private college education.
Students who visit at least four institutions during the week will receive four application fee waivers. Students may use these fee waivers to apply to any four Alliance colleges or universities.
“Personally visiting campuses is one of the most important steps in the college search process,” explains Larry D. Large, President of The Alliance. “I encourage students and their families to explore which college or university is the best match. And I want to reassure them that a high-quality education at an Oregon private college or university is affordable.”
Sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday through Friday. For more information about Oregon Private College Week, including a list of participating colleges and to register, please visit www.oregonprivatecolleges.com.
In-state students attending an Oregon private college or university are eligible for the Oregon Opportunity Grant. A program of the State of Oregon, the Oregon Opportunity Grant will be approximately $2,000 in 2014-15.
The Oregon College Savings Plan and the Matched College Savings Program (MCSP) are sponsors of Oregon Private College Week.

New Resources in the ASPIRE Office

From Janet:

Hi everyone,

Wanted to let you know that I printed out some sample ASVAB test questions (there’s also a link to You Tube for more info on the ASVAB test) by the Common Application poster on the wall near all of the military brochures.

There are some new books that we have in our ASPIRE office (the ones we ordered from Princeton Review way back in October at the ASPIRE Fall Conference). We’ve put these plus a few other books on the shelf above the sink.

Students are welcome to use them in the ASPIRE office, or perhaps check them out during Advisory, but they need to return them the same day – otherwise we lose track of them. You, of course, may check them out for longer periods of time!
