College Matching
Hi
All Below is a link that has some of the best advice I have read. The
title is, In Search of a Match: A guide for helping students make
informed decisions.
It delivers on its promise to inform decisions! I would modify some of
the recommendations such as applying to reach colleges if minimizing
cost is a major consideration but on the whole the information is
accurate and appropriate. The graphics are very
good and summarize important information. As an added benefit it is
free and you can share the digital document.
I
encourage you to read it through and to share this with students and
families. Share your thoughts with this e mail group when you have
finished reading the
document. Cheers, George

Financial Aid Letters and 100% Colleges
Here are links to two great resources – one about
demystifying financial aid letters and the other with a list of colleges
that claim to meet 100% of a student’s financial need.
Practice Tests – Practice | SAT Suite of Assessments
You are aware that the SAT is being revised but so is the PSAT.
Here is the link to the some preparation that our 2015-16 sophomores and
juniors can do
to prepare for the October, 2015 PSAT. You might wish to share this
with your students before the end of the school year
Providence Newberg Medical Center’s 2015 Student Volunteer Summer Program
Dear School Administrators, Student Advisors and Counselors,
We’re pleased to announce Providence Newberg Medical Center’s
2015 Student Volunteer Summer Program. This volunteer program is
designed specifically for a limited number of students between the ages
of 15 to 18 who have a genuine interest in serving and pursuing a career
in health care. Our goal is to introduce
a new generation to the health care profession.
We’ll provide learning and volunteer experiences for students to develop and share their skills.
Students
will serve in a variety of areas throughout the medical center from,
for example, helping as an ambassador at the front desk to re-stocking
in med/surg, the Emergency Department and
short-stay and working with other students on special projects and
events for the Providence Newberg Health Foundation.
The Student Summer Volunteer Program will begin with a required orientation on Thursday, June 18 and run through Thursday, August 13, 2015.
Students will learn about Providence’s Mission and
history, as well as, safety and policies for volunteers. Students will
also learn about volunteer assignments and hear experiences from current
volunteers.
Interested students will need to complete a volunteer application which can be downloaded from our website at
www.Providenceoregon.org/ newbergvolunteers. The application needs to be returned by May 15.
For details, please review the attachments for
the application process, and important dates and information. You will
be receiving a packet in the mail next week with a master copy of the
application.
Student’s
who complete the program will be eligible to continue their volunteer
service during the school year. We appreciate your interest and time to
promote the Student Summer Volunteer Program
to your students. If you have any questions or need more information
please contact me at 503-537-1494 or reply to this email.
Warm regards,
Lisa

How to Read and Evaluate a Financial Aid Award Letter
Below is a link to Edvisors and a really well written and visual presentation on how to evaluate a financial aid award letter.
At
a meeting last week a UofO representative said they were going to be
sending out award letters this week or next. Most colleges try to get
their award letters
sent in late March or early April. Two year colleges are the exception
to getting their award letters out in a timely manner.
