ASPIRE Fall Conference

Who:  ASPIRE coordinators, volunteers, other school staff members and ILP providers interested in training and education success for students.

What:  A full day of site collaboration and session topics to include updates and information about the OSAC Scholarship Application, Career Pathways, ACT vs. SAT, and more.  (Draft agenda provided below.)

Cost:  The registration fee for the ASPIRE Fall Conference is $20, which includes lunch and all conference materials.  Send payment by September 20th to:

Travel Reimbursements: Due to a generous grant from the Department of Human Services, limited travel reimbursement will be available for participants.  Funds will be distributed after the conference and the amount will depend on the number of attendees requesting it. You MUST keep your receipts in order to be eligible for reimbursement. Mileage, lodging, conference fee, and per diem reimbursement will be available for all Independent Living Program providers.

Overview Chemeketa's fall tour for high school counselors and  other student advocates is next month – October 16, 2014  at the Salem campus. Over the last few years we have showcased many of our exceptional academic programs. This year, we will show  you how our students receive support to complete those programs.  Whether you're a high school counselor, career advisor or other  student advocate, we'd love to have you join us. Yes, it’s survey time again!!

You are welcome to share the student survey link below with your seniors. (Since it’s considered an exit survey, they are the only students required to take it.) If you do, please encourage them to take the survey on their own: And please insist they let you know when they have taken it!

 Students can also stop into ASPIRE and take the survey. I have pinned the survey to the Google Chrome icon of each computer. Simply click the Chrome icon, and the survey will appear. Each time a student completes his/her survey and hits submit, a fresh survey will appear for the next student to use.

Please remind your seniors how critical it is for them to complete these surveys – so we can keep improving how we help students – and retain funding for ASPIRE at YC!

Do I Have to Provide My Parents Information on the FAFSA?

Changes to SAT

You may have been reading/hearing about changes coming to the SAT for 2016. Many are referring to this as a “leveling of the playing field.”

One thing it means is that SAT prep will be FREE through Khan Academy, which has partnered with College Board (the company that administers the SATs). Check it out at this link www.khanacademy.org/sat

 2016 seems ages away, but there are changes that students can take advantage of before then: By spring 2015, students will be able to access state-of-the-art, interactive learning tools that provide deep practice and help diagnose knowledge gaps. All of this will be created through a close collaboration with the College Board specifically for the redesigned SAT.
Students taking the SAT in 2014/15 can start practicing today with hundreds of previously unreleased Math, Reading, and Writing questions from real SATs and more than 200 videos that show step-by-step solutions to each question. NOTE: Please be sure to advise your current Juniors about this!!
