Milwaukie HS ASPIRE Coordinator Ginny Denny, created the attached document to help her students navigate the FSA ID application process.  As I’m sure most of you know, getting the FSA ID is more complicated than the old method of obtaining a PIN number, so I thought you might find this helpful.

Oregon Student Aid Application for Undocumented Students

The Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA) is used to ascertain financial need for Oregon students who are undocumented and want to apply for the Oregon Opportunity Grant or Oregon Promise.  The application is now live.

  * Associated Oregon Loggers Scholarship for $6,000. Applicants must be planning to pursue a college degree in forest resource reproduction. Application in ASPIRE. Deadline is         April 1.

IMPORTANT STEPS TO TAKE NOW TO HELP YOU PURSUE EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

1.       Both students and parents must get an FSA (Financial Student Aid) ID n order to file their FAFSA. https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm.

        ​Get your FAFSA done by Jan. 30 to be considered for the Oregon Opportunity Grant

2.    ​Be prepared to do your FAFSA during a work session in Advisory Jan. 19.

3.       If you are headed to community college, complete your Oregon Promise application. http://www.oregonstudentaid.gov/oregon-promise.aspx

4.       Investigate – and apply for -- the scholarships mentioned in Tiger Times.

5.       Complete the OSAC scholarship application. Early bird deadline is Feb. 15.

6.      If you are a candidate to be a Chemeketa Scholar, plan to attend the info session Jan. 11 in Salem or Jan. 12 at the McMinnville campus. Starts at 6:30 p.m.

FAFSA Work Session during Advisory on Jananuary 19th

​The aim of this activity is have as many seniors as possible complete the FAFSA with help from mentors, a college financial aid expert or two, counselors and Advisory teachers. 

Many students have never filled out an application of any kind, and there are so many little things that can trip them up. The rationale is that immediate help with the rough spots will get them to the goal of submitting a complete and accurate FAFSA -- or at least having the Student part done -- before the end of January.           

Parents are welcome to come to the Work Session.

Kaiser Permanente Scholarship Application Deadline - Jan. 13, 2016

Hello, I hope that you had a wonderful holiday break and safely enjoyed the winter weather. This is a reminder that the deadline for the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Career Scholarship application is next week (January 13). Key details are below. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, January 13, 2016, 5 p.m. PST TEACHER/COUNSELOR NOMINATION DEADLINE: Monday, January 11, 2016, 5 p.m. PST APPLICATION: Applicants can click here for the application website or visit the following page: kp.org/communitybenefit/scholarship/nw MORE ABOUT THE NOMINATION PROCESS: Applicants must find a teacher or counselor to nominate them and enter the teacher or counselor’s email address into the online application. The nominator will then receive an email with instructions for confidentially submitting the nomination online. Nominators answer a series of questions and enter comments about the applicant. Applicants must start their application in order to initiate the nomination process but they are not permitted to actually submit their completed application until the nominator has submitted the nomination. Thus, teacher/counselor nominations are due by January 11, 2016 (allowing enough time for students to then submit their applications by the Jan. 13 deadline). Click here for more details about the nomination process. INTERVIEWS: Applicants will be contacted via email if they are invited to interview. We will interview only those applicants being considered for the full spectrum of award amounts ($2,000, $5,000, and $10,000). Interviews will be conducted from late February through mid-April. Students invited to interview are not guaranteed a scholarship in any amount. Students not invited to interview may still be under consideration for a $2,000 scholarship.
