PORTLAND, Ore. - Prospective students are invited to participate in Oregon Private College Week from July 28 – August 1, hosted by the Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges
& Universities (The Alliance).
Oregon’s private, non-profit, regionally accredited
colleges and universities support educational attainment for Oregon’s
socio-economically diverse population with 21% of their
undergraduates being the first in their family to attend college, and
31% qualifying for federal Pell Grants based on income.
The private sector campuses make indispensable
contributions to Oregon’s communities and our state’s 40-40-20 education
attainment goals by awarding 22% of baccalaureate degrees
in such high-need fields as STEM, business, public administration and
social service, and half or more of graduate degrees in health
professions, education, and business. Moreover Alliance institutions
contribute 30% of the bachelor’s degrees and higher portion
of the 40-40-20 attainment goal.
Colleges will offer campus tours and information
sessions about admissions, financial aid and academic programs. College
officials will also correct some common myths about the
cost of a private college education.
Students who visit at least four institutions
during the week will receive four application fee waivers. Students may
use these fee waivers to apply to any four Alliance colleges
or universities.
“Personally visiting campuses is one of the most
important steps in the college search process,” explains Larry D. Large,
President of The Alliance. “I encourage students and their
families to explore which college or university is the best match. And I
want to reassure them that a high-quality education at an Oregon
private college or university is affordable.”

In-state students attending an Oregon private
college or university are eligible for the Oregon Opportunity Grant. A
program of the State of Oregon, the Oregon Opportunity Grant
will be approximately $2,000 in 2014-15.
The Oregon College Savings Plan and the Matched College Savings Program (MCSP) are sponsors of Oregon Private College Week.

Community
College offers a full tuition scholarship for up to two years to any
graduating high school student residing in our district who has a
cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better (as of first semester/quarter grades of
final year in high school) and achieves the required
minimum placement test scores. Home-schooled students are also eligible
with qualifying SAT or ACT scores.
